The RL550B is the workhorse Dillon press.  In my (not so) humble opinion, it is the best press for the money.  It can load almost anything (sorry, no .50 BMG) that is a centerfire rifle or pistol cartridge.  It is the most economical to expand and enhance, having less expensive conversions, than other presses. If I were buying just one press and wanted the most bang for the buck, it would be a Dillon RL550B. RL 550B is a great press.

Lets’s see what Dillon says about it in the Blue Press:

  • Accommodates Over 120 Calibers
  • Interchangeable Toolhead Assembly
  • Auto Powder/Priming Systems
  • Uses Standard 7/8” x 14 dies
  • Loading Rate: 500-600 Rounds/Hour
  • Lifetime “No-BS” Warranty
  • “More RL550s have been sold than any other progressive machine in the world.  The RL550B’s versatility is almost unlimited. It will load 120 different rifle and pistol calibers.  Its quick change toolhead allows the user to change calibers without having to readjust dies.

(Dillon Blue Press continued) “Used with Dillon’s three-die pistol sets, the RL550B allows crimping to be done separately in the last station. This feature makes die adjustment easier and produces a more consistent and accurate round of ammunition.  For this reason, more competition ammunition is loaded on Dillon progressives than on all other loading machines combined.”

Eguns.com: Wow. Those are some claims. Interesting thing is, they are true. You hear old timers say that only single stage presses can be used to make competition quality ammo.  Tell that to all the guys who win or shoot competitively using their Dillon progressives! My single stage press has been relegated to holding my Dillon 1200 Electric Trimmer Motor.

We stock RL550B presses and usually have them in stock.  Occasionally we are sold out but we always have new ones on order. We stock conversion kits for the RL550B in most of the common pistol calibers and in .223 and .308/.3006 rifle calibers.  Sometimes we have other calibers in stock, and we can order anything you want!  Currently 7.62x39, 30-30, .22-250, 243, M1 Carbine, 25-06, 270, 45-70, 7mmRem Mag and probably some I have forgotten are also in stock.

Some common upgrades or accessories to the RL550B:

    • RL 550B Caliber Conversion Kit -- see new eguns.com shop (link on top) for current pricing -- (some exotic calibers more)
    • Parts Kit (so you don’t have to be down while Dillon ships you a new part)
    • Roller Handler
      • Plastic:
      • Aluminum Handle:
    • Strong Mount (5xx/650 version) --
    • Aluminum Bullet Tray
    • Cartridge Bin Bracket Kit --
    • Deluxe Caliber Quick Change Assembly
    • Toolhead / Powder Die
    • Toolhead Stand --
    • Dillon Primer Flip Tray --
    • Machine Maintenance Kit with Spare Parts Kit --
    • RL 550B Machine Cover --
    • Extra Primer Pickup Tubes -- 4pack Small or Large or Mixed --
    • Dillon Standard Dies Sets.  The best dies around! All are 3 die sets.  Dillon pistol dies include Carbide sizer and can be disassembled and cleaned without losing your settings.  Rifle dies are top notch and the depriming assembly in the sizer die can function as a stuck case remover if a case gets stuck in the die.  We try and keep the common pistol and rifle calibers in stock (see 550 press caliber listings) and can order any others.   Our price is .  (.357 SIG is retail priced at , and 9x25 Dillon is retail priced at ) Carbide rifle dies are also available for .223 and .308. (They still require case lube).  .223 Carbide rifle dies and 308 Win carbide rifle dies are priced at .   Individual sizing, crimping, seating, and sizing/depriming dies are also available. Normal stocked die sets: (32, 380, 9mm, 38/357, 40, 41 Mag, 45LC, 45ACP, 44, 223, , 30-30, 308, 3006, ).  Also Redding 243 and 22-250 die sets are stocked for , as are the Redding Competition Seating Die (micrometer seating die) for 308 and 223 -- only

The picture at the left is an RL 550B press with many optional upgrades and accessories.  Shown are the low powder sensor (in the powder measure), the strong mounts, the bullet tray (with the slugs) and the roller handle.

The strong mount system is very handy when you need to raise the press up, want to move it off the edge of your bench, or want to spread the force it exerts on your table out over a larger area.

The roller handle makes long loading sessions more comfortable.
